Day 1: Quito to Mindo:
The Mindo – Nambillo reserve is a protected forest with approximately 19,000 acres that has many wonders inside its dense cloud forest; and, one of them is surely being a paradise for bird lovers, since Mindo is home to more than 400 species of birds, also 60 different species of butterflies and 170 species of orchids call this reserve their home. Apart from marveling at the magical cloud forest, our excursion includes a visit to an orchid and butterfly farm where you certainly have the best opportunities to take pictures of dozens of hummingbirds while they feed in front of you. Lunch in the area and overnight in Mindo.
Day 2: Mindo Chocolate tasting experience & return to Quito:
Today, we have an interesting experience, trying out the local chocolate and visiting where it is made, at its artisanal factory. Here you can see the process and learn how chocolate is made from “bean to bar”. Since 2008, the process of making the best chocolate possible in Mindo began, a long process that starts on local family farms and ends in our hand-wrapped bars. The source of the family’s chocolate is the finest organic Nacional cacao from small family farms outside of Mindo, here they oversee the first critical stages of the process: fermentation and drying of the cocoa beans.
