Day 1: Quito to Riobamba
Departure from Quito through the famous “Avenue of the Volcanoes” towards the beautiful city of Riobamba which is located at the base of the highest volcano in Ecuador, the mighty Chimborazo, we will stop by and visit an indigenous market on the way, depending the day of the week. Next we will arrive in Riobamba and visit the city and its colonial downtown. Overnight in Riobamba.
Day 2: Riobamba to Alausi: Train ride to the “Devil´s Nose”:
Early in the morning we will depart from the hotel to take the refurbished Andean Train, famously known due to its complex engineering as “The most difficult railway ever built”. Our journey crosses the peak known as the “Devil’s Nose” or “Nariz del Diablo” in Spanish, it has this name because of all the men that died trying to build it. These tracks will lead the train to the top of the Andean mountains in order to continue its magical journey through villages and towns in the highlands. Here we will have some time to visit the locally based project that nowadays are taking an important role in the economies of the people living along the railway system. Back on board and continue back to Alausi, where we continue on to Cuenca, arrival and dinner. Overnight in Cuenca
Day 3: Cuenca and return to Quito:
Today is devoted to visiting one of the most beautiful cities in Ecuador, Cuenca was recently declared a World Cultural Heritage Site by the UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization). Our city tour in Cuenca takes you to discover this fantastic colonial city and its hidden secrets, plazas, narrow cobbled stone streets, flower market, the Cathedral, visit the famous Panama Hat Factory and more. Afternoon fly back to Quito.
