Cuyabeno Lodge opened in 1988 with the belief that those traveling to the rainforest should be given service in an environment that works in harmony with the surrounding atmosphere, and combines it with all the needs of the modern traveler. The folks at Cuyabeno are pioneers in the tourism field having built the first eco-friendly lodge in the Cuyabeno National Park. All electricity at the lodge is provided by solar panel energy, and the guides are bilingual naturalists native to the area.

There are seven independent cabins or “cabanas” made of wood and thatched roofs, each with double accommodations and a tiled private bathroom with hot water showers. Additionally, there are three Superior Rooms located in the tower, granting an outstanding view into the forest’s canopy! Cuyabeno Lodge’s facilities also include a restaurant, a reading and information room, and a bar. The restaurant serves both international and national specialties. If guests have any special requirements due to dietary preferences or needs, your requests can be accommodated at no additional cost.
On your trip, you will have the chance to experience: Canoeing in the Laguna Grande” in motorized and/or dugout crafts Swimming Enjoying spectacular sunsets Bird watching and searching for dolphins and monkeys Fishing for piranha Hiking in the Rainforest Explanations about the jungle, wildlife, medical plants and indigenous history Visiting the Siona Community and learning about their culture Night walks and rides in the canoe to observe nocturnal wildlife Swinging in hammocks Enjoying the vista from the top floor of the tower

Day 1: From Quito to Lago Agrio by plane or bus

Fly in about 25 minutes from the capital Quito across the Andes to the frontier town of Lago Agrio, the oil boom town where the Amazon lowlands begin and your program for visiting the Amazon in Ecuador starts. Your flight passes by the Cayambe. From there, our bus takes you in about 1 hour 45 minutes to the entry station Cuyabeno Bridge here we register at the Entrance ranger station “Cuyabeno Bridge”. There are permanent police officers and park ranger at different ranger station. Upon arrival, your adventurous Amazon journey really takes off, as we take you along the beautiful winding Cuyabeno River to reach our lodge. It’s a fascinating ride on this tributary of the Amazon River, that will take you first to the largest lake in the reserve, the Laguna Cuyabeno also known as Laguna Grande. This is the perfect spot to explore the Amazon, as our Amazon Jungle Lodge Cuyabeno Lodge is one of the few accommodation located on any of the seven lakes of the Cuyabeno river system. Dinner and overnight at Cuyabeno Lodge.

Day 2: Birding, howler and squirrel monkeys

As birds are most active at dawn, you may start out your day with birdwatching before breakfast with our experienced guide. Blue and Yellow Macaws fly noisily across the Cuyabeno Lake, while Hoatzins whisper their hoarse sounds as they scope the Macrolobium trees for food. You may also hear the mysterious swelling sound of the Howler Monkeys or see a troop of squirrel monkeys bouncing through the treetops. In fact, 10 species of monkeys have been recorded in the reserve.

The evenings are always a pleasant and relaxing time, far away from the modern world with television, you enjoy the peacefulness of the sounds of the jungle. Dinner and overnight at Cuyabeno Lodge

Day 3: Cultural experiences with Siona community

After breakfast explore the Amazon rainforest in the “terra firma” forest with your naturalist guide where you can learn about the forest’s medicinal plants and traditions. There are many colorful flowers in the Cuyabeno Reserve, but it takes a bit of an effort to find them. Orchids and Heliconias are among the more spectacular Amazon Forest Plants. After lunch and a siesta you will look for birds and orchids in the flooded igapo (Brazilian Portuguese for Amazon swamp) with Macrolobium trees covered in abundant epiphytes. At the end of the day you can enjoy a sunset swim in the lake. A visit to the Siona village is always interesting: Vegetable garden with explanations from a Siona woman; Preparation of manioc in the fire box. Dinner and overnight at Cuyabeno Lodge.

Day 4: Visiting the best place of the Amazon in Ecuador.

“It all went by too quickly”. Maybe you will become one of our frequent visitors that keep coming back for a special program of one or two weeks. You leave in the morning to get back on time to catch the plane or bus in Lago Agrio.
